No one could accuse Ryan Sublette, who records as Adeodat Warfield, of musical bluntness.

The Columbia, Missouri-based songwriter and bedroom producer prefers the sunnier and softer side of pop, drawing from a palette of old-school video game scores and the sparkling synth schlock that soundtracked every slow dance in a school gym in 1986.

On this purely instrumental cut, Sublette eases himself in with a steady drum machine beat before weaving a dusky synthpop tapestry best described with distinctly tactile adjectives: velvety, smooth, and silken, for starters.

In just over two minutes, Sublette finds his groove, then lets that just-so tape warmth do the rest.

Needless to say, it goes down smooth.
