As half of the cult-favorite, now-defunct noise-dance duo Black Dresses, Toronto’s Ada Rook has plenty of experience shouting about existential dread atop abrasive electronics.

This may well be her most aggressive, disconsolate song to date.

A blitzkrieg mashup of jungle percussion, rapid-fire synth stuttering, and Rook’s unyielding growl, the track is equally indebted to the thrash of metal and the transcendence of a pitch-black midnight rave.

Themes of disappearance, disconnection, and starting over sometimes break through Rook’s snarling; at other times, her bloodcurdling screams mask her words.

Yet you never need to know what she’s saying: Here the medium – equally violent and liberatory – is the message too.
